What Is Earth Day The first Earth Day was on April 22, 1970 and it is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. Their mission is to continue to diversify, educate and activate this movement worldwide. So far, Earth Day Network has 75,000 partners in nearly 192 countries all working to build environmental democracy. It is estimated that more than 1 billion people participate in Earth Day activities each year, which makes it the largest civic observance in the world.
